Brain Surgery...

Last week my mother found out on Tuesday that she was going to have her brain tumor removed on that Thursday. Short notice, but it was actually a relief not to have to worry and stress about it for several weeks or days. Darla and I got up at 2:00 a.m. that Thursday and left at 3:30 to go down to Columbia. Mom's check in was at 5:45 and we wanted to get there before that. They took her back to the surgery waiting at 7:00, surgery started at 8:30 and she was done at 10:30. By 11:00 they have told us that she was moving her hands, feet, and talking. We were relieved because those were the areas of concern with the area of her tumor. When removing the tumor the doctor told us that he would have to cut around the tumor and then kinda scoop it out. After he "got in there" he discovered that there was a vein going over the top of the tumor that he was able to move to the side, cut around the edges of the tumor and just "pop it out" (in his words) because it wasn't attached on the bottom side. She was really lucky. The MRI taken the next day showed that there were no cancerous cells remaining in her brain. Currently she is CANCER FREE!!!

Update...

We haven't been up to much lately. School started back last week and I'm exhausted after a three day work week. The road construction on Highway 63 is about to do me in. It adds 30-60 minutes on to my trip each day. Consider both ways and your talking 60-120 minutes just sitting or only going 2 miles per hour while you're following BIG machines for 15 miles. I've had to leave home by 6:30 (6:15 when I have to take Lydia to the sitter's house). She's going to turn into a bear before it's over. Also with school starting my house has gone to pot. I hadn't vacuumed, dusted, or swept since Monday. These usually happen every other day. I had dishes in my since, trash falling out of the trash can, dirty laundry falling out of the hamper,... I could go on, but you get the picture. I spent the morning getting everything back to normal. Other than the three loads of laundry it's looking good. This afternoon we went to the Glenwood reunion for a parade. Lydia didn't have that much fun. Probable because some really loud machine with stinky exhaust backed up right beside where we were standing. The farther we moved away, the closer they came. And of course they kept it running the entire time. (HOW RUDE!!!) Lydia was scared of it. I was very upset by the time the parade was over. Tonight we get to go to the Downing Rodeo. We've gone almost every year that they have it. This will be Lydia's second year. She enjoyed it last year so I think she'll love it this year. Tomorrow I get to finish up whatever laundry is left and can tomatoes.

Until next time...

Summer Favorites...

Here are some of my favorite things from the summer.

Lydia started sleeping in her "big" girl bed. We took the rail off and now she has a day bed. She does really well with in and stays in once we put her there. In the mornings and after nap time she won't get out until we go into her room.

We went to story hour every week here in town. Each time they did two coloring projects, a craft project, listened to three stories, and then were able to check out books. This is my favorite project they made - Princess Hats.

Here she is all dressed and ready for the pool. We only went once this year because is was such a cool summer.

Once she figured out how to sit in the ring she LOVED it.

This is my favorite picture from all summer. She was so proud of this little rock.

Until next time...
